BME MASc student, Lawrence Buchan, has received the Graduate Student Achievement Award in the Biomedical Engineering for 2013-14 in recognition of his entrepreneurial achievements and a high standard of scholarly achievement.
For his research,Lawrence is currently using weight-bearing MRI to investigate the role of biomechanics in hip arthritis. He wants to understand why certain types of hip geometry cause impingement at the hip, which may eventually lead to irreversible joint disease. He is also working with a team of engineers and the Uganda Sustainable Trauma Orthopaedic Program to develop a sustainable power drill solution for trauma surgery in low-resource settings.
Congratulations Lawrence for your achievements!
