Philip Edgcumbe receives 2016/2017 B.C. Medtech Award in Biomedical Engineering

Philip Edgcumbe  has received the prestigious B.C. Medtech Award in Biomedical Engineering for 2016-17. This award recognizes entrepreneurial achievements by graduate students in Biomedical Engineering at UBC and is awarded to students who have demonstrated both strong leadership and a high standard of scholarly achievement.

Philip is an MDPhD student in Biomedical Engineering. He invented and patented a  surgical device which was licensed to Northern Digital Inc. and has been involved in two start-up companies (NMotive Inc. and Lume Biotics). Philip co-founded the UBC Technology in Medicine club and served as co-President for two years.

Philip recently accepted the position of the Bold Innovator (Project Leader) for the development of the Alzheimer’s XPRIZE project. More about the project can be found here, and includes a 3 minute video of Philip explaining his role at at XPRIZE – he is tasked with designing a $10 million research incentive prize to catalyze a breakthrough in Alzheimer’s research.
