Computer-assisted orthopedic surgery; real-time 3D ultrasound imaging; mini-robotic devices and simulations for surgical accuracy & effficiency; human eye model for sensorimotor studies

Biography:

Curriculum Development: Dr. Hodgson was a founding instructor of the MECH2 program which won the 2005 ASME Curriculum Innovation Award, the 2007 UBC Alfred Scow Award and the 2008 Alan Blizzard Award. He won a Killam Teaching Award in 2002. He teaches courses in mechanical and medical device design and, when a co-chairholder of the NSERC Chair in Design Engineering program, developed a new interdisciplinary senior design course, doubled enrolment in the New Venture Design program, and designed the NSERC CREATE-funded Engineers in Scrubs graduate training program.

Professional Affiliations: Dr. Hodgson is a registered Professional Engineer, a member of ASME, IEEE and the Computer-Assisted Orthopaedic Surgery Society (President, 2014-15), and serves on the board of the Medical Device Development Centre. He was the 2017 recipient of the Maurice E Mueller Award for Excellence in Computer Assisted Surgery, recognizing a career-long contribution.
